His aerial perspective revealed a significant concavity on each of the pyramid’s faces, splitting them into two along a central line stretching from base to apex.
This discovery unveiled the octagonal shape of the Great Pyramid of Giza, a design so precise that it remains invisible from the ground and only becomes apparent when viewed from above.
Architectural Genius or Coincidence?
According to archaeological architects, these concave faces were no accident. They contributed to the pyramid’s structural stability, enabling it to endure for over 4,500 years despite harsh desert conditions.
“The inclined layers, combined with a reinforced base, were essential for the pyramid’s long-term stability against natural forces such as gravity compression, earthquakes, and storms,” explains Akio Kato, a physicist at Kanagawa University, Japan.
As the outer layers eroded over time, this clever design allowed the inner layers to tighten and strengthen, showcasing the ancient Egyptians’ engineering brilliance.
